Tivo owners with Picasa or Photobucket accounts just got another way to view their photos on their TVs—everyone’s favorite DVR company announced deals with both services today that will allow users to access their photos from any Tivo device. Photos will be pulled down at the highest resolution your Tivo supports, so Series3 and Tivo HD owners will get HD-res images displayed, and what’s more, users can also access friends’ photo albums.

looks like there’s another issue brewing, with a number of users complaining of battery problems with Zune 30s and 80s loaded with the most recent firmware. Apparently, the Zunes have the unfortunate tendency to rapidly drain their batteries, even when the player is not in use. Judging from the discussion on the Zune.net message boards, that particular issue seems to be due to some unknown difficulty the Zune has with entering hibernate mode which it, seemingly, doesn’t do at all.

Fix : (For Zune 3.0 ) To get things started, you’ll have to first drain the Zune until you get the exclamation point, and then fully charge it again (leaving it overnight, if necessary). After that’s done, you then reset the Zune by pressing up and back simultaneously, which should set things back on track . Not a perfect solution, obviously, but it seems to be the best option for now.

The new Zunes now have the ability to wirelessly sync within range of a host computer. Microsoft also dropped the 3-day limitation from its “3-day-or-3-play” DRM scheme, gave the Zune the ability to playback content from Windows Media Center-enabled PCs and added support for h.264 and MPEG-4 file formats.

When Microsoft announced the new Zune, it also shocked many in the industry when it noted that first generation Zunes—now called the Zune 30—would also receive the new Zune software features via a firmware update.

Microsoft sent out an email to current Zune 30 owners yesterday informing them that the new firmware update along with updated Zune Marketplace software will be available on November 13.

With the release of Firmware version 1.1.1 for Apple iPhone (Update),renders them useless, unless you are willing to get an AT&T contract. Installer.app and any other unlocking associated software is rendered useless by the update, as well. It is still in the stored on the phone, but the application will no longer appear on the screen. Further, the update puts unlocked iPhones into the Activation screen that awaited normal users when they first purchased their phone

Apple released a statement earlier this week that, “Apple has discovered that many of the unauthorized iPhone unlocking programs available on the Internet cause irreparable damage to the iPhone’s software, which will likely result in the modified iPhone becoming permanently inoperable when a future Apple-supplied iPhone software update is installed.”

Yahoo just announced that their Yahoo mail service will offer unlimited storage for your incoming emails. It was started by Google, which launched one of the first freemails with 1 GB and kept increasing this space until now. Gmail was quickly followed by wide range of other more or less known email providers, but almost none of them gained more popularity from this step – it is way more about the user interface of your mailbox and additional services than gigabytes of storage, which noone uses anyway. According to Reuters, officials said the decision to remove e-mail storage limits reflects the plunging cost of storage as new personal computers store up to a trillion bytes of data.

Yahoo’s Spam filter had a nice run until the spammers started spamming with images in the message , and yes of course the images had ads written in it which rendered yahoo’s spam filter useless :(

I guess shifting to Gmail was not such a bad decision :)

BitTorrent today announced it has acquired µTorrent, a lightweight and efficient implementation of the BitTorrent protocol. The objective is to combine BitTorrent’s expertise in networking protocols with µTorrent’s high-performance design and compelling user interface (UI).
Following the acquisition, patented content delivery innovations made by BitTorrent will be integrated in the µTorrent client in a “seamless” manner.
The acquisition will also accelerate BitTorrent’s plans to provide high-performance content delivery services to websites seeking an efficient platform for distributing large, high-quality files and strengthen the adoption of BitTorrent technology in embedded systems.

Well there goes another torrent client down the drain :( (it would have been better if they would have just stopped the development like TorrentStorm did years back)
